Rogue Anti Spyware! What Mac Users Need To KnowLet us say your PC has been afflicted with a terrible and horribly life changing spyware. It has made your PC to have so many pop-ups you get so frustrated to the point of almost tearing your hair all off out of desperation. It has made you feel vulnerable, annoyed, frustrated and unfortunately, very much ready to rely your trust on a good old anti spyware. So you search for the words “free anti spyware” on your favorite search engine and you click on the very first link that you find, completely trusting that this will save you from your problem. After installing, you try to scan your computer and it shows you have over a thousand spywares! Its either that or your computer simply crashes because the trial version that you installed had a Trojan horse tagging along with the download. This means that not only are you a victim of spyware, you have also become a victim of rogue anti spyware. Not a lucky time for you and your computer. Rogue and unnecessary anti spyware softwares are made to prey on unsuspecting spyware victims that just want to have their computers fixed in order to rake in some bucks. The companies that handle these do this in a number of ways. How? They use pop ups saying “We have detected x number of spywares in your computer. Download the XYZ program now for a thirty day trial period1” This is called doing a “false positive.” It may be that your computer may not have any spyware at all or they are claiming you have 132 spywares when in fact you only have 2 and this high number is used to make you think that their program is better than your existing program that only found 2. An example of this is the product #1 Spyware Killer. They use very misleading advertisements or they even automatically install these rogue anti spyware programs without your consent. Once installed, their reminders will keep on telling you to buy this product or else you have x number of spywares to deal with, like what the product AntiSpyZone does. And the extreme rogue anti spyware programs actually install Trojan worms as soon as you install their trial version. This will then ask you to buy the paid version so you can finally remove this worm. Sometimes, they also install malicious files so you can see that the rogue anti spyware is working as it pulled up malware but in fact they just gave you a false sense of security. An example of this is AlfaCleaner. People nowadays really will do anything to earn a few more bucks than the average Joe so you have to be vigilant on what you install on your PC and what wares you buy. For a complete listing of the rogue anti spyware and a very comprehensive one at that, try logging on to Spyware Warrior at www.spywarewarrior.com as this site has been helping people become more and more aware of the existence of such vile programs. To avoid all these spywares we recommend using the legitimate macintosh spyware removal programs like Internet Cleanup or MacScan |
